tō te Māori, nō te Māori, mō te Māori

What guides us

Our beginnings
Te Arahanga ō Ngā Iwi was established in October 2002 as an independent self-sustaining Māori economic development agency that works collaboratively with it's Māori and non-Māori community.  Meeting the demands of the membership of Te Rōpū Pakihi Inc, the Kapiti and Horowhenua Māori business network were key motivators for the establishment of the service, and the two organisations remain closely tied.

Our kaupapa
In early 2005, the agency adopted the kaupapa developed by Te Wānanga ā Raukawa. The whānau have accepted these kaupapa and ensure that all work, opportunities and outcomes are measured by these values.

  • Manaakitanga - Ensuring that all people are comfortable and made to feel valued whether they be clients, providers, government or other agency representatives.
  • Ukaipotanga - Ensuring that the business and wider community has a sense of ownership of the agency, and that all kaimahi (personnel) and manuhiri (visitors) have a sense of belonging.
  • Rangatiratanga - Promoting good role models, taking a leadership role in Māori economic development in our area, facilitating rōpū and hui that encourage people's independence.
  • Kotahitanga - Developing strategic relationships with Māori businesses, organisations and government agencies to pursue a common purpose.
  • Te Reo - Supporting providers of Te Reo Māori, and offering opportunities for clients to work with bi-lingual kaimahi (personnel)
  • Wairuatanga - Supporting each other and our clients with karakia (prayer), and aroha (respect).
  • Whakawhanaungatanga - Respecting and treating each other as we would members of our own whānau (family), including whānau in decision-making and making them welcome to the office.
  • Whakapapa - Forming Iwi and Hapū links with our manuhiri (visitors).
  • Kaitiakitanga - Ensuring the safety of people, ideas and spirituality in all our efforts.
  • Pūkengatanga - Constantly assessing our own professional development, and promoting and encouraging others in skill development.
